Want to take your dog from panicked to peaceful when they're home alone?

Are you starting to feel like a prisoner in your own home?

Is your dog destroying your home and furnishings, causing noise complaints with endless barking, and impossible to crate?

You’ve been suffering alongside your dog long enough — let's talk.

Get your freedom back and teach your dog that you're always going to come home for them.

Separation anxiety may be a complex beast that tests your patience (and your neighbours'!) and denies you your freedom, but it doesn't have to be that way.

The Happy Home Alone™ program is the most comprehensive online program for people whose dogs are suffering from home-alone distress.

I will show you exactly how to help your dog relax when you leave them alone — without gimmicks like stuffed food toys, anxiety wraps, or aversive tools and techniques.

Let's play a game. One point for each of the ones that you've tried:

  • Anxiety wraps
  • Calming chews
  • Stuffed food toys
  • Classical music
  • Natural remedies / CBD oil
  • Teaching a down-stay on a mat
  • Exercising your dog more
  • Ignoring them before and after absences
  • Crating your dog
  • Being "Alpha" or focusing on "leadership training"
  • High frequency sonic devices
  • Aversive collars (spray or shock)
  • Waiting for quiet before you return
  • Leaving for longer and longer absences

How many points did you rack up?

You've scoured the internet for advice, talked to family, friends, and other dog-lovers. The advice you've been given sounded promising but so far, nothing has worked. You're debating hiring a trainer or behaviourist to come in and help you fix this once and for all.

You need immediate relief and long-term results.

There is help. I promise!

You're in the right place, if...

  • your dog is showing signs of distress when left alone at home
  • you're getting complaints from neighbours about barking and howling
  • you're tired of repairing the destruction you come home to
  • you've tried so many of the products on the market geared towards this behaviour challenge but haven't seen a change
  • you've hired a trainer and all you've done is work on "obedience" like mat-work or "stay"
  • you’re as anxious as your dog is when you leave the house
  • you've tried (or are considering trying) aversive tools to stop the behaviour in its tracks
  • you are desperate to get your freedom and life back once and for all

By the end of the Happy Home Alone™ program, you will have:

a clear understanding of your dog and their behaviour
the ability to read your dog's body language and MORE ACCURATELY predict their behaviour
the skills to be able to change how your dog feels about BEING LEFT ALONE
taken a few big steps towards your freedom and peace of mind
the confidence and support to keep going with a clear plan in place

You want to be able to leave your house without the anxiety, noise complaints and frustration.

You're tired of trying "all the things" and you just need a consistent plan and regular support.

Here’s what people are saying about the course

Taking the Happy Home Alone program is the first time that I actually felt hopeful that my dog and I may one day resolve our separation anxiety issues. Caryn gave us a solid foundation of skills and resources. She was very supportive and her wonderful sense of humour added some laughter to lighten up the stress of trying to deal with this issue. Taking the program with a group of people was an invaluable experience because we could commiserate through the tough times and cheer each other on with our mission wins. My dog and I started at ground zero, but now I have a plan to help us work towards a day when he can be comfortable at home alone.

Caryn's gentle and wise approach to providing practical advice and support in training our puppy has been invaluable. She's always in your corner championing your successes as well as comforting your difficulties. We cannot express how genuinely lovely the experience she has crafted has been for her clients. Her support has been nothing short of spectacular.

Caryn answered every. single. one of my questions thoroughly and without judgement. I'm not sure I've ever felt that supported in an online class, or had that much direct access to the instructor. I loved it.

I really appreciated the science-based approach to understanding our dogs' emotional responses. I also appreciated how much space and resources were given to individualize the program instead of giving a cookie cutter approach.

Do you have reservations about online learning for this behaviour challenge?

I loved being part of a community who was all experiencing the same thing. It made me feel less alone and less like a 'failure' dog parent. I also really appreciated the pre-built missions, because it gave me the structure I really needed to follow a routine and stay consistent. Took a lot of the guesswork away.

Listen, I've been doing this a long time and one of my super-skills is listening to people, not just dogs.

I know what it's like to adopt a dog and feel like I'm in over my head with an overwhelming behaviour challenge like separation anxiety and feel anxious about it, myself!

I also know what it's like to feel inundated with advice from many different sources and struggle to know what is going to work and what is totally bogus and outdated.

My job is to save you time hunting and pecking for bits and pieces of information that may or may not work, to provide you with science-based information vs. pseudo-science, and to help you succeed.

When you join Happy Home Alone™ you get the support you need.

You'll be walked through the program, one module at a time so that you have a specific focus for each week. We meet regularly for LIVE Coaching Calls and Q&As!

The Community is active and open 24/7; you get dedicated support from me, Monday-to-Friday!

Stop with the gimmicks.

Resolve your dog's separation anxiety so you can get your life back.

Caryn has trained dogs, cats, horses, chickens, a rat and even a goldfish. She has a soft spot for German Shepherds and reactive dogs.

I completed the Happy Home Alone course and I am so happy I did! I was at a loss and not sure what to try with our pup next. What attracted to me to the program is that the philosophy actually made sense to me, not to mention it is a kinder way to train our dogs from separation anxiety disorder.

I really like that I had a partner and guide every step of the way in Caryn. It's so comforting to take the guesswork out of it and leave it to the pro's advice!

Being part of the community was terrific too; we supported each other, shared our stories and learned from one another. I saw immediate results in our pup Soma; it's such a relief finding a program that actually bears results.

Caryn has such a huge wealth of knowledge; she is also a realistic trainer, and even in a group setting, she is very hands-on with each owner and their pet.

Whether you have a dog that is already suffering from separation anxiety or if you have just brought a new puppy home, I would highly recommend this course as it sets the foundation for both your freedom and your dog's happiness :)

Your dog doesn't need a "bootcamp" or a board & train program.

YOU need daily support and a clear plan to follow!

You want to be able to leave your dog at home without the anxiety, noise complaints, embarrassment, frustration, and destruction.

You're tired of hunting and pecking for information online, spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on private trainers and getting nowhere.

Is what you're currently doing working for you?

If it were, you wouldn't be here looking for a solution.

Stop dishing out your hard-earned money for an hour at a time in private lessons!

This program has it all, PLUS the support you need every day in order to make real progress.

I’ve been where you are.

I can help you get to where I am.

For years, I was coaching in private lessons and feeling guilty for being unable to give more to my students than the hour they had paid for. To maintain a training business, I was trading hours for dollars and, all the while, knowing that people needed more. More time, more support — more everything.

You simply cannot get enough from a couple private lessons to give you a fighting chance at modifying reactivity.

My students get BETTER results than those with an in-person trainer. How can an in-person trainer help you with a behaviour challenge that occurs when the dog is alone??

They can't. That's the bottom line.

You need eyes on your dog and access to me five days a week! You need this program.

I am so excited to be able to offer this to you.

You'll have access to consistent, safe information, almost-daily guidance and support, PLUS the added benefit of a community that doesn't shame you or blame you.

They support you because they understand you — they’re in the very same position.

What do I need to get started?

I'm not going to pretend that this program is for everyone! There are a few things you'll need if you want to achieve your goals with this program. You don't need to be a tech whiz, but you do need some of the basics.

A camera-enabled computer, tablet, or smartphone

You'll need eyes on your dog and that means a computer with a camera, a tablet, or an extra smartphone that you can leave set up on wifi. If you have a Nestcam, Wyzecam or other video/audio recording device, perfect!

Wifi and a data plan on your smartphone

You'll need connectivity on the go as you get closer and closer to your goal of leaving your dog alone. This is how you'll monitor your dog when they're home alone!

An open mind

Separation Anxiety is a complex beast so we have to get creative. You will need to find a management solution for your dog so that they are no longer being left alone longer than they can handle.

Frequently asked questions

When can I join?

We only run a few cohorts per year and we can't wait to e-meet you and your dog!

If we don't have a cohort starting soon, you'll see a waitlist option and you'll be notified by email.

This is for the duration of the program or until you meet your goal.

Don't I need in-person training?

In-person training certainly has its benefits for most other issues, but truthfully, not for separation anxiety or isolation distress!

And here's why: Our specialised program is all done virtually. This allows you to observe your dog during a short absence in the most organic way possible (without a trainer sitting in your living room). We can do more, virtually, without doing an in-home visit where we cannot observe your dog during an absence.

Home alone issues happen when dogs are...home alone. This is where technology is our greatest asset.

What methods do you use?

I wish everyone asked this question! The training industry is unregulated, and this means that anyone can be a trainer and do whatever they want to your dog without much more than a wrist-slap for even the most abusive crimes.

For that reason, you need to ask these questions and you should demand transparency.

We use science-based and humane methods.

We do not use aversives. We do not promote or condone the use of aversives such as:

  • physical violence
(hitting, kicking, choking, slapping, poking, jabbing, leash corrections, pinning/Alpha-rolling, biting, pinching, helicoptering, scruffing)
  • aversive tools and equipment
(prong/pinch collars, choke/check collars, spray collars, shock collars, sonic anti-bark devices, electric mats)
  • the use of force or intimidation
(staring down, physical moulding into position, yelling/screaming/barking at the dog, throwing items at/near the dog)

We do not subscribe to outdated theories such as The Dominance Theory; you cannot be "Alpha" to your dog since the term "alpha" is synonymous with "breeding pair".

We do not enforce deprivation-training (starving the dog, withholding water or oxygen).

Okay, so what do we use?

We use humane, family-friendly, safe, non-violent methods of training. We train horses, belugas, elephants, hyenas, and bears this way, so you can certainly train your dog this way.

We use rewards (food, play, affection, praise, access to resources) to increase the desired behaviour. This is called Positive Reinforcement.

If required, we use reward-removal (prevent access to resource, withhold treat, tug, praise, affection momentarily) to decrease the undesired behaviour. This is called Negative Punishment.

More than anything, we set the learners (you and your dog) up for success by managing the environment, preventing problems before they occur, and help the dog make the right choice.

Specifically for separation-related issues, we use a process called "Systematic Desensitisation". There are no food toys, no gimmicks, nothing. Just a very gentle and gradual approach to stretching out your dog's relaxed absences at their pace.

Do you offer a guarantee?

Yes and no!

Because we're dealing with two species (human and dog), I cannot guarantee results; no one can guarantee behaviour. That would be unethical and if you get a guarantee like that from a trainer, you should run in the opposite direction.

However, I guarantee I will give you my all! For the weeks that we will be working together, I will be dedicated to you and your classmates, supporting you along the way and providing humane, science-based information.
