Can I join the Membership without purchasing a course?

Our Membership is a place where I can support our students through implementation of what is learned in the courses. For that reason, there is no option for a "course-less membership", so to speak. Our courses target specific goals and challenges, walking you through, step-by-step. Our Membership is supplementary to this, as opposed to being the main source of learning.

Don't see a course that solves your problem? Let me know and I'll add it to the list and notify you if we launch it!

Do I have to join the Membership when I purchase a course?

Are you certified / qualified?

You bet I am! I'm glad you asked. The animal training industry is unregulated (terrifying!) and anyone can hang a shingle and call themselves a trainer. In fact, there are even unregulated "certifying bodies" out there, making things even more confusing to the consumer.

I have been certified through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers, I am a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer, a Family Paws Parent Educator, and a Fear Free Certified Professional

Click on each of those links to find out more about the organisations and get in touch with them if you have questions!

Note: I have recently discontinued my membership to CCPDT.

What training methods do you use?

I wish everyone asked this question! As you know (above) the training industry is unregulated and this means that anyone can be a trainer and do whatever they want to your dog without much more than a wrist-slap for even the most abusive crimes.

For that reason, you need to ask these questions and you should demand transparency.

We use science-based and humane methods. Let me explain:

We do not use/promote/condone the use of aversives and this includes:

- physical violence (hitting, kicking, choking, slapping, poking, jabbing, leash corrections, pinning/Alpha-rolling, biting, pinching, helicoptering, scruffing)
- aversive tools and equipment (prong/pinch collars, choke/check collars, spray collars, shock collars, sonic anti-bark devices, electric mats)
- the use of force or intimidation (staring down, physical moulding into position, yelling/screaming/barking at the dog, throwing items at/near the dog)

We do not subscribe to outdated theories such as The Dominance Theory; you cannot be "Alpha" to your dog since the term "alpha" is synonymous with "breeding pair".

We do not enforce deprivation-training (starving the dog, withholding water or oxygen)

Okay, so what does that leave?

We use humane, family-friendly, safe, non-violent methods of training. If we can train horses, belugas, elephants, hyenas, and bears this way, you can certainly train your dog this way.

We use rewards (food, play, affection, praise, access to resources) to increase the desired behaviour. This is called Positive Reinforcement.

If required, we use reward-removal (prevent access to resource, withhold treat, tug, praise, affection momentarily) to decrease the undesired behaviour. This is called Negative Punishment.

More than anything, we set the learners (you and your dog) up for success by managing the environment, preventing problems before they occur, and help the dog make the right choice.

Do you offer a guarantee?

Yes and no!

Because we're dealing with two species (human and dog), I cannot guarantee results; no one can guarantee behaviour. That would be unethical and if you get a guarantee like that from a trainer, you should run in the opposite direction.

However, I do offer a guarantee that if you're not happy within 5 days or 10% completion of the course, I will refund you, no questions asked. After 5 days or 10% completion of the course, I cannot refund you.

Do you have any in-person group classes I can attend?

Our brick and mortar location in Toronto is completely closed. We are now fully online and offering even more support than could possibly exist if we offered our in-school training.

Check out our Services to find something that works best for you and if you have any questions, let us know and we're happy to help!

As a Member, am I locked in for a period of time?

Nope! You can purchase the Membership month-to-month and cancel anytime. Monthly memberships are not pro-rated or refunded.

You can also purchase the Membership at the discounted annual fee and cancel anytime, however, this would be pro-rated and refunded at the monthly rate.

Can I upgrade to an annual membership if I start with monthly?

Heck, yes! Who wouldn't want that discount?!

If I cancel, can I rejoin?

Absolutely! If you're within the year that you purchased the course, you can rejoin. If the year expired, you may be required to renew with the same or another course. This prevents people from rejoining years down the line after zero contact and us being expected to provide the same level of support as we do to active students.

Do I get one-on-one virtual coaching with a Trainer?

At this time, we are not offering private coaching, however, if you're looking for a private trainer, please email us at and let us know what challenges you're facing and we will help you find a Trainer to match!

Do you have any in-person private lessons I can attend?

At this time, we are not offering private coaching, however, if you're looking for a private trainer, please email us at and let us know what challenges you're facing and we will help you find a Trainer to match!

If you do want in-person training, I am happy to refer you to colleagues that I trust, or point you in the direction of good places to find qualified Trainers.

Are there any cases you will not take on?

Absolutely! If there is a case that I feel is outside of our scope or requires the care of a Veterinary Behaviourist, I will definitely refer you to one that I trust. Most often, these are the cases that we refer out:

- where anxiety is so debiliating that the dog is suffering from phobias (anxiety when the trigger is not even present)
- agoraphobia (cannot even leave the house)
- self-harming behaviours as a result of underlying panic or anxiety
- aggression resulting in a fatality (of a domestic animal or a human)
- behaviour challenges as a result of untreated physical pain or illness
